UNISOAP UAE is a sustainability initiative powered by Goumbook that focuses on recycling discarded hotel soaps to benefit both people and planet. The program, launched in partnership with the French NGO UNISOAP in spring 2023, aims to address the issue of wastefulness in the hospitality industry while simultaneously providing access to hygiene resources to underprivileged communities. The initiative aligns with governmental and industry-specific sustainability goals and promotes positive environmental and social impacts with a local focus.
In the UAE alone, a staggering 16 million hotel soaps are tossed each year, contributing to landfill waste and concerns over resource use. Simultaneously, the number of people worldwide who currently still lack access to basic handwashing facilities highlight the urgent need for hygiene resources and equitable access.
UNISOAP UAE transforms waste into value. We collaborate with hotels to collect discarded soaps which undergo a meticulous local recycling process transforming them into new soap bars. These recycled soaps then find their way to vulnerable members of the local community, improving their access to basic hygiene.
