MENA Oceans is an initiative by Goumbook to bring regional ocean priorities to the forefront by forging strategic partnerships between diverse stakeholder groups.
The Initiative, aligned with global goals is driving long-term impact for our oceans through regional and sectorial collaborations.
Our mission is to be a driving force for healthy ocean ecosystems and sustainable blue economies, that enable a thriving planet and its people. By fostering cross-sectoral collaborations, this multilateral Initiative breaks stakeholder groups out of silos and provides avenues for translating science into policy, awareness and resource mobilization efforts in the MENA region.

As the planet’s greatest carbon sink, a healthy ocean is absolutely crucial to our survival. It can protect against the worst impacts of climate change, ensures the survival of rich marine biodiversity and is vital to the livelihoods for billions of people. The MENA Oceans initiative offers a valuable and regional framework with science-based actions that work towards a healthier ocean and limiting global warming.

MENA Oceans Initiative aims to:
Advocate and raise awareness of regional ecosystems, initiatives, challenges and solutions.
Gather global stakeholders annually in person at the MENA Oceans Summit, set agenda, review progress through outcome reports
Facilitate access and availability of scientific and industry research, resources, tools, case studies and pilot projects.
Raise awareness and capacity build for regional ecosystems, challenges and solutions.
