Youth Action

Providing Youth with knowledge and tools towards environmental awareness, social responsibility, sustainability and climate action. By encouraging volunteering and engagement, we aim to inspire and empower young minds to be part of the sustainable future they wish to achieve.

What is Goumbook Youth Action about?

A 2021 survey of 10,000 children and young people (aged 16–25 years) in ten countries (Australia, Brazil, Finland, France, India, Nigeria, Philippines, Portugal, the UK, and the USA) found that more than 45% felt their worries about climate change negatively affect their daily life and functioning, and many reported a high number of negative thoughts about climate change. A staggering 75% said that they think the future is frightening and 83% said that they think older generations have failed to take care of the planet.

Since 2017, Goumbook has dedicated time and efforts to engage with younger generations and we have launched our Youth Action initiatives to make sure they understand that they can be part of the solutions to fight climate change as well as pollution, water scarcity, social injustice and other global challenges.

Youth Action wants to empower young individuals and help them become environmentally conscious to inspire sustainable living practices in their schools, in their communities and in their families.

Goumbook is proud to have partnered with impactful organisations to enable Youth participation in different initiatives and programs.

In 2017, 2018 and 2019, Goumbook partnered with HSBC to launch the Drop It Youth campaign, raising awareness about single use plastics and the impact on the environment and on human health.

In September 2022, Goumbook launched the “Learn, Do, Share”: a future-proof mindset changing program. “Learn”: Students learn about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and actively address key issues such as inequalities, pollution, climate change, circular economy, and much more. “Do”: They participate in meaningful activities with a mix of talks, team building, reflection times, interviews with change makers. They become active learners. “Share”: Students are empowered to share their learnings and to inspire sustainable living practices in their schools and their communities, becoming Youth Ambassadors with the unique guidance of Goumbook.

In October 2023, Goumbook partnered with the Emirates Schools Establishment and Abdulla Al Ghurair Foundation to launch the “Takween” National Program. This initiative aims to develop the cognitive and skill capabilities of 5,000 cycle two and three students in public schools nationwide while providing guidance to help them achieve their future career aspirations. This will be achieved by engaging them in various after-school programs and training courses.

In December 2023, at COP28, Goumbook partnered with the UAE Ministry of Education to raise awareness about biodiversity and the local environment at the Education Hub in the Green Zone, welcoming over 50,000 visitors with more than 3,500 students from 122 schols from across the country over the course of 13 days.

Become A Youth Action Ambassador

The end objective is to raise awareness and encourage individuals and organisations to reduce their negative impact on the environment through simple everyday choices.

Once officially selected by our supporting partners, Youth ambassadors will receive a unique set of tools: posters, infographics, social media posts, ‘how to’ guides and videos. These tools (to be received in soft copy) will enable the ambassadors to make a head start on the campaigns, spreading awareness within their own community (schools, neighbourhoods etc…) for a more sustainable approach to everyday life.

A dedicated support group will offer guidance and bring young ambassadors together, in order to encourage the birth of a young community of environmental enthusiasts.

Youth ambassadors (individuals or groups) will be invited to run their respective campaigns from November 2018 to May 2019. They will be provided with a list of potential activities and initiatives in order to raise awareness on environmental and social topics and provide everyday solutions to be more sustainable.

Our Youth Action team will be available to answer all questions online, share more exclusive content and support all young ambassadors throughout their campaigns, by giving awareness talks at school, organising movie screenings on environmental documentaries, or real life get togethers.

All our Youth ambassadors will be rewarded with a special participation certificate.
