Sea through Protect the ocean - because what’s beneath sustains us all

Sea Through, a campaign by Goumbook is designed to deepen understanding of marine ecosystems while inspiring meaningful action. Centered on raising awareness, the campaign combines storytelling with hands-on, experiential learning to connect individuals directly with the fragile beauty of underwater habitats. By highlighting the critical roles of coral reefs and seagrass meadows, Sea Through emphasizes both their ecological importance and the urgent need for restoration.

The ocean covers over 70% of our planet and is Earth’s life-support system. It regulates our climate, produces over half of the oxygen we breathe, provides food for billions, and shelters extraordinary biodiversity. Yet today, marine ecosystems are under threat like never before. Overfishing, plastic pollution, coral bleaching, and habitat destruction are eroding ocean health at alarming rates. Rising sea temperatures caused by climate change are accelerating this decline, weakening the ocean’s ability to protect us from global warming. Effective marine conservation efforts, from coral restoration to coastal protection and sustainable fishing practices, play a critical role in restoring these vital habitats and strengthening the ocean’s resilience.

Our Focus Areas

Sea Through’s focus is on two of the ocean’s most vital yet vulnerable ecosystems, coral reefs and seagrass meadows. Coral reefs, often referred to as the rainforests of the sea, support an abundance of biodiversity, protect coastlines from erosion, and sustain local fisheries. Seagrass meadows, though less visible, are equally essential: they act as powerful carbon sinks, improve water quality, and provide critical nursery habitats for marine life.

In the UAE and wider GCC region, these ecosystems face additional pressures from rising sea temperatures, coastal development, and salinity extremes, making their protection and restoration even more challenging and urgent. By spotlighting these interconnected ecosystems, Sea Through underscores their role in maintaining ocean health and climate resilience, while driving restoration efforts that help safeguard their future for generations to come.

Adopt a Coral

Coral reefs are essential to marine life, yet they are under threat from rising temperatures, pollution, and habitat loss. By adopting a coral, you help support hands-on restoration work that brings reef systems back to life—supporting biodiversity, protecting shorelines, and preserving our oceans for future generations.

The contribution covers planting and maintaining the corals for a year with our partners at Project REEFrame.

Our Focus Area

Mangroves

Natural carbon sinks that protect coastlines, shelter marine life, and store up to four times more carbon than tropical forests.

Coral Reefs

The foundation of marine biodiversity, supporting 25% of all marine species and acting as natural breakwaters that protect shorelines.

Seagrass Meadows

Vital feeding grounds for turtles, dugongs, and juvenile fish, while also capturing significant amounts of carbon and stabilizing the seabed.

How to get Involved

Educate - Ocean literacy, talks, workshops, citizen science programmes

Through engaging talks, hands-on workshops, and immersive learning experiences, we break down complex marine challenges into accessible, actionable insights. Our citizen science programs empower participants of all ages to collect real data, observe coastal ecosystems, and contribute meaningfully to scientific research.

Engage - CSR, Commercial partnerships, adopt a coral

Through CSR initiatives and commercial collaborations, partners can support conservation projects, participate in restoration activities, and embed sustainability into their everyday operations. Our “Adopt a Coral” program allows supporters to directly contribute to reef rehabilitation efforts - funding coral growth, maintenance, and monitoring.

Partner - Long-term sponsorships of coral nurseries, build an artificial reef

Sponsors can support the development and maintenance of coral nurseries, enabling continuous planting, monitoring, and research to strengthen reef resilience. For deeper impact, partners can collaborate with us to design and build artificial reefs that enhance biodiversity, create new habitats, and support long-term ecological recovery.
