Goumbook’s Mangroves Matter Campaign launched in 2021 is dedicated to climate action, biodiversity protection, and supporting global reforestation efforts. The programme is designed to empower companies to meet sustainability goals by supporting reforestation and ecosystem restoration in the UAE and beyond through diverse local and global planting projects.
Planting with Purpose
Every minute, 36 football fields of forests disappear, contributing between 12% and 17% of annual global greenhouse gas emissions (Conservation International; World Resources Institute). The need to protect and restore our forests has never been more critical.
With escalating climate challenges, the UAE faces an urgent need for environmental restoration and biodiversity conservation. Native tree species like mangroves play a vital role in this effort, providing natural barriers that protect coastlines, support diverse ecosystems, and effectively capture carbon from the atmosphere. Without these native trees, our environment becomes increasingly vulnerable, making their conservation and reforestation essential for long-term ecological resilience.
In 2021 Goumbook launched the Mangroves Matter initiative to drive climate action, protect biodiversity, and support global reforestation by planting native tree species, with a particular emphasis on mangrove reforestation. This initiative harnesses the unique environmental benefits of mangroves to create sustainable, region-wide impacts. By prioritising native species, Mangroves Matter aligns with national conservation goals and raises awareness of the importance of preserving the UAE’s natural heritage. This initiative offers a powerful pathway toward a healthier, more resilient future, contributing meaningfully to both local and global reforestation efforts.
